Yeah I Like the Beatles too

Dr. Dog’s fifth album Fate is a fusion of classical sounds. The Dog quintet draws their inspiration from musical royalty like Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys and the Beatles, then again who doesn’t. The only difference is that they can execute, extremely well.
Their opener the Breeze is a very Beach Boysesque song that creates a whimsical island feel, go figure right. It’s a nice opening to the C.D. and transitions perfectly into the real meat of the album, specifically “Old Days” and “From.”
“Old Days” really emphasizes the band’s approach to music. The melodies in the song are really provocative and the lyrics are simple and direct. There is rarely a moment where Dr. Dog tries to use overly complicated metaphors to describe their feelings. It’s actually a breath of fresh air compared to a lot of the convoluted pieces of work now.
“From,” another standout piece could easily be mistaken for the Beatle’s. Its an extremely well crafted piece that blends sing along moments with powerful guitar elements, not to mention the lyrics about choo choo trains.
Overall, Dr. Dog’s “Fate” is a really enjoyable listen. They combine a classical style with some direct lyrics. It is a truly evocative album, one that gives you something new every time you listen to it.
