Ting Tings Around the Rosie

The Ting Tings, an English dance-punk/indie-pop duo from the UK, are made up of Jules De Martino (and Katie White. They are neon lights and bright colors, oversized sunglasses and tight pants, step-aerobics style dance moves. They are a moving Urban Outfitters ad singing Le Tigre and The Teenagers. To some of you, that might sound like a couple of trashy hipsters dancing in front of a green screen, but I’d have to disagree. The Ting Tings’ sound is unique. Jules and Katie both sing and play guitar but Jules also plays the bass drum on tracks like “That’s Not My Name”. There’s an electronic flair to the sound that gives the duo some spunk. Their music doesn’t claim to be deep or moving – no. It’s catchy and cutesy and a bit like The Kills but hell I’d add it to my “It’s time to pull an all-nighter writing another paper” mix.
